The short explanation of this alert was:
Right now North Carolina sends $10 to $15 billion a year out-of-state to buy oil, coal, natural gas and uranium to meet our electricity and transportation needs - $1.6 billion of this is for fuel to generate electricity. It doesn't have to be this way. With a smart energy plan, we can create North Carolina jobs, lower electric bills, and reduce global warming emissions.
The quickest, most cost-effective, and responsible way for our state to meet its energy needs is by passing House Bill 77, Promote Renewable Energy and Energy EfficiencyRenewable. Recently 56 members of the NC House introduced this bill to require 20% of North Carolina’s energy to come from efficiency measures and clean renewable sources. This would require N.C. to use clean renewable energy sources (wind, solar, etc.) and cheap energy efficiency programs to meet a portion of its energy demand. A recent study for the NC Utilities Commission found that thousands more jobs will be created from renewable energy and efficiency investment than would be created by a business-as-usual model with more coal and nuclear plants.
Send the letter below to your state legislators and demand a smart energy plan for NC!
