The short explanation of this alert was:

Senate Bill 567 would severely undermine NC's Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (REPS) by weakening the definition of renewable energy. The company behind S567 wants “smart grid” energy efficiency technology to be legally defined as a source of renewable energy. However, there are already provisions for energy efficiency technologies in the existing REPS bill.

S567 would allow big utilities to meet renewable energy goals with only energy efficiency, which will further North Carolina's reliance on big polluting power plants rather than promote our transition to clean, renewable sources of energy.
