The short explanation of this alert was:

On May 25, with the encouragement of hundreds of North Carolina public alert members, the Senate passed S.1134, the NC Global Warming Act by an overwhelming 44-6 majority.

Now there is even more exciting news to report—yesterday, June 28th, the NC Global Warming Act moved one step closer to the legislative finish line when it passed unanimously out of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee!

The House committee vote is a tremendous milestone, but the NC Global Warming Act cannot be signed into law until it also passes the entire House of Representatives.  A victory for North Carolina is just one step away, but we need your help to cement this win!

This legislation, the first of its kind introduced in any Southeast state, creates a legislative commission charged with making recommendations on how North Carolina can deal with potential global warming impacts and leverage economic opportunities that come with addressing global warming.  The commission will also consider whether the state should adopt a goal to reduce global warming pollution.

TIME IS LIMITED-TAKE ACTION NOW! Send the message below and tell your State Representative to vote YES on S.1134, the NC Global Warming Act!

*Note: Your letter can have extra impact with your elected officials if you edit it to say a little about why you think NC should take a close look at how global warming will impact our state.

Tips on Writing To Elected Officials:

1) State that you are a constituent in their district.
2) Personalize your letter by using a story and saying why this legislation is important to you.
3) Be Brief and polite.
4) Thank them for their time.
